The next generation

We've all been looking for that sire to take our horses into the next generation. We look for a horse that has the bloodlines, the looks, the attitude and the natural talent. But most of all we look for a horse that has generations of champions in their history.

Youngstar Marnies Duke is that horse.

Youngstar Stud has been looking to find the next sire to improve our stud for generations to come. We have combined our resident sire Marnies Destiny - Australia's most awarded campdraft horse - with Nonda Hula Hoop - a champion of her time, and one of the best producing mares in the country. A great combination of Australian traditional Stockhorse lines with Australia's most successful Quarter Horse lines.

Duke - Cloncurry Dry Work 2016

Duke is the last foal out of the great mare Nonda Hula Hoop. Due to her old age, she struggled to take care of Duke as a foal, so we had to help raise him. From a young age he had some very special qualities and stood out amongst all of our horses that we have bred. He continued to develop into exactly what we were after.

He was started at the 2014 Colt Starting Clinic by Keshia Hilliam under the guidance of Ron Wall. From the very first time she started working with him, he did everything right. He was extremely quiet, very well mannered and did everything he was asked with pure natural ability.

Another reason why we decided to keep Duke as a colt is because of his full sister Youngstar Marnies Glamour. This mare is one of the most talented up and coming mares in the country. She is constantly in the winner's circle and people come to watch her compete. For more info see her write-up on the page: 'Our Horses'.

Duke Campdrafting

We believe in taking our time in setting our horses up to enable them to reach their full potential. Duke was lightly ridden for three months, and then taken to the 2015 Cloncurry Stockman's Challenge as a 3-year old. We mainly took him there just for him to experience a competition. We were very excited when he excelled in all four sections and placed  8th overall. He was then turned out for a spell.

In 2016 we brought him back to work in February. He was lightly campaigned and placed at a few challenges. He then returned to the Cloncurry Stockman's Challenge. He was amongst the leaders to the very last section of the final. Unfortunately he didn't get a great cow, however he still manage to placed. His sister, Youngstar Marnies Glamour, won the Open Challenge the same day.

Youngstar Marnies Duke is currently in preparation for the 2019 Campdraft season.

Watch this space! This colt has a huge future!!
